ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY

M.Ed, Secondary English Education

2008 - 2010

Graduate thesis served through an action research project to give students reading comprehension and fluency skills that would also serve in other content areas. Two research questions guided the project, including:

1. DOES REPEATED READING HELP IMPROVE READING COMPREHENSION AND FLUENCY?

2. DOES REPEATED READING WORK BETTER WITH SHORTER TEXTS?

Since Willis Junior High had an average or below-average scores on reading (Terra Nova 52, AIMS 68), the strategies used in this action research project were aimed to help students comprehend texts individually when performing these exams. Furthermore, being able to comprehend texts is a form of literacy that is forstered outside of classroom environments.
